Random Number Sequences- Do they really exist ?

Well, the big question is - is it possible to create a truly random sequence of numbers ?

I was thinking on these lines -
  1. Generation can be either done synthetically (human created algorithm) or by observing a certain parameter of a naturally occuring event. I believe that all human attempts are unlikely to be truly random creations as there shall always be a mathematical logic behind it, which shall always give predictable sequence.
  2. The queer part is that, if we believe that eventually science (which always has a mathematical formulation) can explain all natural phenomenon, then we cannot get a sequence of random numbers from nature. (if (1) above is true!)
Does above mean truly random number sequences do not exist. Because if they do then, boy, does it prove that science cannot explain nature in its entirity ?

What do you think ?

Shared

This is to the old times. I had joined TI after college and we were bunch of friends - a poet, a birdwatcher :) and tum-bahut-funny-hote-ho. We would share lot of things many a times, till we grew up, e.g. walks, time after work, dinner, snacks and sometimes shers which lead to the concept of share-d, a random spam of mails with shero-shairi.

Google search helped me collect a few, and put some that I liked here:
First,

वक्त की हो धूप या हो तेज़ आंधियाँ

कुछ कदमों के निशान कभी नही खोते

जिन्हें याद करके मुस्कुरा दे आँखें

वोह लोग दूर होकर भी दूर नही होते

Second,

आपकी मुस्कान हमारी कमज़ोरी है

कह न पाना हमारी मज़बूरी है

आप क्यों नही समझते इस खामोशी को

क्या खामोशी को जुबान देना ज़रूरी है ?

A beginning...

More Physics

What did Heisenberg say about sex?
If you've got the position you haven't got the momentum & if you've got the energy you haven't got the time!

The do it collection....
  1. Acoustics do it orally.
  2. Electron microscopists do it 100,000 times.
  3. Particle physicists do it energetically.
  4. Heisenberg was never sure whether or not he did it.
  5. Quantum theorists do it in tiny tiny pieces.
  6. Spectroscopists do it with frequency and intensity.
  7. Physicists do it in waves.

Physics Quotes !

In science there is only Physics; all the rest is stamp collecting !!!!! - E. Rutherford
Physics has been my childhood fascination, and physicists my inspiration! Here I share some interesting physics quotes ..some funny, some outrageous, some beautiful ...
(Under continuous updation...)

"The second law of thermodynamics holds, I think, the supreme position amongthe laws of nature. If someone points out to you that your pet theory of theUniverse is in disagreement with Maxwell's equations - then so much the worsefor Maxwell's equations. If it is found to be contradicted by observation -well, those experimentalists do bungle things up sometimes. but if your theoryis found to be against the second law of thermodynamics I can give you no hope;there is nothing to do but to collapse in deepest humiliation."
-- Arthur S. Eddington (British Astrophysicist, 1882-1944) in The natureof the Physical World (1928)

If it's all right with Dirac, it's all right with me.
-- Enrico Fermi, on being told that there was direct experimental evidence that helium-3 nuclei obey Fermi-Dirac statistics.

Physics is like sex: sure, it may give some practical results, but that'snot why we do it.
-- Richard Feynman.

Vishy, The World #1

There are all kinds of champions. Some last a few days, some a month. Some are known for their grunts on the field, some more for flamboyance off the field. Some so eccentric that well, are they sane ? Then there are a few like Vishy.

Vishy or Vishwanathan Anand our own chess wizard, was rewriting record books and making history while the over hyped cricket team was bludgeoned out of first round of CWC. There is perhaps none in chess arena who could match Anand's lightening moves, or his consistency over a period of more than a decade at the top of chess and that too when one is playing almost every other tournament.

The best part of Anand's personality is his "nice" nature. No tantrums. No fancy statements. Quiet, determined, consitent. A true champion, champion of champions!

Wish you good luck, Anand!!

Keep Up

Of Underdogs, enthuthiasm and passion !

Its was an extraordinary day at CWC 2007.

Bangladesh rolled India with a 5 wkt win, and Ireland stunned Pakistan with indomitable will to win, shutting fancied Pak out of WC!

It was so heartening to see young Tamim from Bangladesh taking the Indian attack to sword by irrepressible spirit, and attacking batting. Strokes flew thick and fast in the off and cover, and Zaheer could only watch. But what was absolutely delicious and final nail in coffin, was the breathtaking six off Zahir, which only few accomplished batsmen would dare to take chance off. Tamim read the fast short bouncer, charged down the track and brilliantly connected the ball crashing it high above the fence. His body language ominous and I knew he was burning, to finish the match there and then and prove a point... He was unstoppable, and India's fate was more or less sealed.....

I personally have had the pleasure of sometimes being the underdog or more fancied opponent in the games I relish playing.. Badminton and Lawn Tennis. As a more fancied opponent in Tennis, I met my match once and it was joy to be part of that tennis... I was two months into my 27th year, and in fairly good nick. So was pleasently suprised on the way things turned. She was hitting hard, winners flying left and right, down the line or just in the baseline as I watched in disbelief.. Oh what an exhilerating display by the youngster. I was tired in 30 minutes, engaged in some fantastic rallies. My opponent was just 12 a year old girl, and I had never been part of such a game!! We played a friendly no-score match, but something I shall always remember..

Then there was a baddy match, where I once showed incredible grit to come from behind and defeat a slightly better opponent in 3 sets. I recall I lost the first set..and trailing 6-10 in second. But I was not going to lose that day. I managed to dig deep and clawed back in second set taking it to 14-14 and finally closing it out. Yes!!! I still remember that moment. Then the third set was again thrilling, but i am glad i prevailed and entered the next round...

There have been many other greatest moments in sports and wow, is it fun to get that adrenaline rush, the never-say-die spirit, hang in there, play like never played before, beat the odds , and hold up the racket in triumph... Thats the glory...

When

When Pachebel's Canon leaves you mesmerized,
When Balakrishna Rao's Aaj Hi Hoga leaves you tender,
When Guru's Tere Bina leaves you longing,
When the world is a poem, and time a tinkling river...
Halt.. wet thyself in the loveliness, savour the moments...
Hope.. and move on.

Steve Irwin

Whenever I turn on my Tv, I switch to Animal Planet to check whats coming. There is always an excitement that hey, may be Steve's on air.

I loved Steve for his energy, enthusiasm and the candid passion towards animal life. "Look at that... How handsome he is...Look its glorious skin..". " What a little sweet heart...".. "Watch out.... Here comes his mother... She is going to be really angry...", that was Steve while checking out a new born rattle snake.. It was funny, but it was real, and he was genuine....

"I need to check out my little girls," said Steve once. It turns out the 'little girls' were huge crocodiles! I was so pleasantly shocked, when I got the first dose of Steve, which I still fondly remember. Once introduced to Crocodile Hunter's Diary, I almost always used to check it out, whenever I had access to the television. But now it shall be different.

It is the way of life. Steve died doing what he loved most. Be with the animals. Apparently he was stung by a sting ray barb while shooting for new serial off the Great Barrier Reef. It is ironic that he met his end from an animal, which is almost never a threat to humans. His was, I heard only the 2nd death reported, due to a sting ray attack in the history.

Now he is no more. But he shall always be remembered for his passion and for what he stood far.

With love, Steve.
